Great day at the FZ Forza Grade C & F Irish Nationals

The first National Graded event of the season was the Grade C & F Irish Nationals which took place in the Baldoyle Badminton Centre on the 14th of December. Following the success of last year, finalists in all the Graded events will compete in the National Indoor Arena on the 9th of May. This year was an incredible turnout. See below a breakdown of the Grade C & F Finals:

Grade C

Some Highlights:

Cormac Meegan showcased his talent throughout the competition, securing his place in three Grade C Finals in the men’ singles, mixed doubles with partner Anastasya Shyrokovskaya, and men’s doubles with his partner Paul Ennis. Meegan & Ennis were moving effortlessly through the tournament until the semi-finals, but still beat Jack MacBeth & Aaron McAuley after three games (21 – 23, 21 – 14, 21 – 14). In the 2018 Grade C Irish Nationals, Steinberga was beaten in the semi-finals, but in 2019 she made a comeback by beating Fiona McAdams after three tough games (13 – 21, 21 – 19, 21 – 18) and securing her place in the Final.

Grade F

Some Highlights:

Evan Conroy did extremely well throughout the tournament, making it to the final of the Men’s Doubles with partner, Kieran O’Connell after two straight games (21 – 18, 21 – 19). Conroy made it to the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles and was beaten by Andrew Furey after three tough games (22 – 20, 9 -21, 21 – 19). Ceira Kennedy also secured her place in one final, the Women’s Doubles, with partner Sarah Barry, and made it to the semi-final of the Women’s Singles, where she was beaten by Lucy O’Halloran (21 0 18, 21 – 19). O’Halloran went to the semi-final of the WD with Aoife O’Driscoll, and just missed out on the final after three tough games against Robyn Kehoe & Meg O’Keeffe.
