The BWF European Para Badminton Championships is the most prestigious Para Badminton event held in Europe every two years. The top players from across Europe will be coming to Ireland in October 2020 with the aim of leaving Dublin as European Champion. With the Tokyo Paralympics moving to August 2021, this event will be used by European players to make a statement to those watching around the world and showcase their ability to compete for medals in the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

2020 marks five years since Ireland joined the Para Badminton International Calendar. The BWF Para Badminton circuit has grown a lot as a sport since Ireland's introduction in 2015, increasing from only 6 events in the calendar to more than doubling in 2019. The Irish Para Badminton Open has been held in Antrim and in Baldoyle over the past five years before finding a home at the National Indoor Arena in Dublin in 2017. The growth of Para Badminton as a sport has come a long way, with 211 players competing at the Paralympic Qualification event in June 2019 compared to the 99 players that entered in Ireland's first ever Para Badminton International event. In January 2020 Badminton Ireland were awarded the European Para Badminton Championships for October 2020. This will be 6th European Championships with the first being held in Switzerland in 2010.
