Development March Update

March was a busy month for the Badminton Ireland Development Team with lots of events surrounding the topic of Women in Sport. Between International Women’s Day during Women in Sport Week, the launch of a new region for our Women in Sport Fun, Fitness and Footwork and our Women in Sport Webinar entitled ‘A Conversation with Gail Emms’.

Sport Ireland announced that Women in Sport Week would take place from March 8th – 12th which included International Women’s Day. This International Women’s Day the theme was Choose to Challenge so this year Badminton Ireland challenged our clubs to profile influential females within their clubs and our sport. BI also took the time to profile their female staff members to show their appreciation for the work they do for this sport.

On the Wednesday of Women in Sport Week Badminton Ireland and Galway Sports Partnership hosted the first of four sessions in our Women in Sport – Fun, Fitness & Footwork programme. The aim of this programme is to provide females with the chance to learn the basic movements of our sport and contains elements of strength and conditioning and footwork. The programme concluded last night the 31st of March and the participant feedback has been really positive.

Last but not least, Badminton Ireland in conjunction with Munster Badminton hosted a Women In Sport Webinar – ‘A Conversation with Gail Emms’. Gail Emms is a Silver Medallist Olympian, a European and World Champion and she provided our membership base with some expert knowledge covering some topics such as resilience, dealing with setbacks in sport and tips for success in the sporting industry. In case you missed this webinar please feel free to watch it back on YouTube through the link below.

Badminton Ireland would not be able to do the things we do without our partners and we are very grateful for their contribution to our programmes and projects.
