On behalf of Badminton Ireland, I would like to offer our condolences to Catherine Smyth and her family on the death of her brother Frank, and Tony Clarke on the death of his Mother.

The Board would also like to offer condolences to the family of Frank O’Reilly who also passed away recently - Frank was a former Chairperson and President in Leinster and he also managed Irish underage teams

Frank O'Reilly with the Irish U15 Team

Frank initially became involved in the administrative side of the game when he was invited by Frank Peard to become Assistant Director of European Championships in 1976. Frank Peard was aware of his organising skills from his work on Guinness Athletic Union and he did a first-class job in his role as Assistant Director.

Frank very quickly became involved in Leinster Branch and became Chairperson of the Executive Committee in 1978. He continued in this role until 1986. He was very much a hands-on Chairperson and was fully aware of all the Branches activities and was always keen to see improvements in all areas. During his period as Chairperson, he also served as Leinster Branch nominee on the Badminton Union of Ireland Executive Committee. There was a considerable workload involved in these two rolls. He also made himself available to act as team manager for a number of under-age teams.

After retiring as Chairperson of Leinster Branch he served as President of the Branch for three years. He was made an Honorary Life Member of the Branch in recognition of his contribution to the game
