Hp Round up January

The High-performance players went straight back into competition after a short break in December with a trip to Asia to start the year.

The three Olympic hopefuls competed in events in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The players competed well at these events with the standout result coming from Nhat Nguyen beating French number three Lucas Corvee. Corvee has been ranked as high as 35 in the World and had beaten Nhat in their previous meeting at the Orleans Masters in 2018. Despite a number of other good performances, the Irish were unable to build on their Olympic qualification points during this round of events.



Sara Boyle was the other Irish player competing in January. Sara competed at the 2020 Swedish Open. Sara won two rounds of qualifying beating Elisabeth Tran of Denmark and Ulyana Zakharava of Belarus. In the main draw Sara lost out to another Dane Amalie Schulz 14-21 16-21.

European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships

It was a positive week for the Irish with some very strong individual performances in each of their three matches.

"it as a positive week all in all for our Irish players. The Men's and Women's teams both performed well with some very good individual performances across the matches this week. The Men and Women both had difficult groups but showed great character and determination in each of their matches. We will build on the experience gained this week and try make an even better performance in the next team championships, the European mixed team qualification coming up in December" Team Coaches Daniel Magee and Aisling Ryan

Niall McVeigh Paralympic

Niall McVeigh Continued his Paralympic qualification journey travelling to the Brazil Para Open followed by the Peru Para Open. Niall done well in both events beating opposition from Brazil, Peru, Canada and Chinese Taipei to reach the quarterfinals of each event.

Niall lost out in the quarterfinal of both events to the number 3/4 seed Vitor Gonçalves Tavares from Brazil





Hp March Round Up

Jonathan Dolan made a good start to March reaching the semi-final of the 2020 Slovakian open. Jonathan beat opposition from Slovakia, Denmark and the number one seed Lu Chia Hung from Chinese Taipei to reach the semi-final. In the semi-final Dolan lost out to Johnnie Torjussen from England.


Nicole Joy took double gold at the Milton Keynes U13 Gold Star event. Nicole beat Prarthana Reddy in the final of the singles 24-22 21-14, before teaming up with Anna Kalathil George to win the doubles event. Nicole and Anna beat the number one seeds Maria Mitchell and Yashica Racharla in the doubles final 21-15 21-15
