Ireland had players competing at the 2019 Barcelona Masters, 2019 Austrian Open, 2019 German Open and the 2019 Slovakian Open during February. The tournaments seen a mixed set of results with some very positive individual performances and some disappointing early exits.

One of the big highlights came at the 2019 Barcelona Masters where Sam and Chloe Magee reached the last 16 of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event. On their way to the final the pair beat the 2019 Danish national champions Bay-Smidt and Soby before losing out to world number 10 pairing Ellis and Smith of England.

Irish number one men’s singles player Nhat Nguyen was also in action on the same week at the 2019 Austrian open. Nhat played Alex Lane of England in his opening match and would have been disappointed to go out in straight games. Nhat had an impressive European mixed team championship winning his singles against Germany and competing well against the English number one Ouseph. Unfortunately, Nhat was unable to carry this form onto the Austrian open and he must rebuild for his next set of tournaments starting with the Portuguese Open.
