One psychological preparation tip you would give other athletes.

For Sam and myself we like to watch our opponents on video before we play them. It’s good to get an idea of their weaknesses and strengths so we can be as ready as possible when we step on court!

What is the importance of being good tactically on the court?

Badminton is an extremely tactical sport. You can make the game a lot easier for yourself if you play smart. When you play against the best pairs in the world they are all extremely fast and powerful so having good tactics, and being able to use them, is so important.

What are the characteristics of a good trainer?

I think to be a good coach you must know your players and how to get the best out of them. Setting training each day that is not only physical but tactical and technical and also knowing what to say at those high-pressure moments in big matches!

What is the importance of a good nutritional diet?

Eating right is essential so your body can train at its maximum but also recover quickly. Fuelling your body correctly for big tournaments is not only essential for your physical but I find it also helps keep you much more focused and alert which in badminton is so important!

What is the best advice you have been given that you would pass on to others.

Always give your best whether it’s in big tournaments or your everyday training. You can’t do any more than your best but only you know if your giving 100% and getting everything you can out of your badminton career!
