Ireland has had a good start over at the Welsh International with many of the players making it through qualification and first-round matches. Many of the players are looking to get some ranking points ahead of the Irish Open taking place next week in the National Indoor Arena.
In qualification, Paul Reynolds and Rachael Darragh came through beating Li/Li of England in straight games. Mark Brady and Jonathan Dolan narrowly missed out in qualifications losing their final matches in the three games.
Moving to the main draw saw the Irish win a number of their opening matches to progress through to the second round today. Reynolds/Darragh beat Ip/Jone of England while Chamber/Chambers beat Cook/King of England. That set up for an all Irish second round today between these two pairs in the mixed doubles.
In the men's singles Nhat Nguyen dispatched of Joel Douse of England to set up a second-round Dziolko of Poland. Boyle/Darragh also won the opening match of their women's doubles beating Kelly/Miller of England in three games. Lastly, Reynolds/Nguyen went through in two straight games against Pissis/Temereas of Cyprus.
