Shuttle Time Irish Secondary School Finals

This year’s Shuttle Time secondary school finals took place in Gormanston Park, Co.Meath on Wednesday 8th March. The event was split into three age groups per gender, U14, U16 and U19. Each age group would see the Division 1 and Division 2 finalists compete against each other in their respective section. This year saw schools from all four provinces compete in the competition. The Shuttle Time Finals gives students the unique opportunity to challenge themselves against the best players in the country at their age group.

Before play commenced in the morning all the players lined up in their schools for the parade. Looking around the hall you could see the atmosphere growing. It was evident to see the creativity and hard work that had gone into some of the schools parade. When play commenced, each team competed in a league format. From the first match you could hear the students getting behind their team mates with cheers coming as players won narrow games for their school. The whole day had schools acting in a competitive and sporting environment, with every game ending in a handshake and in good nature. As the day came to a close, it was evident that many of the groups would be decided in the final game of the league. In the U19 Boys Division 2 both Naomh Cormac and Colaiste Phoball Roscrea were left eagerly awaiting the decision who would become the division winner. Both teams had finished with equal matches, equal games but Naomh Cormac came away with the trophy on points. Colaiste Treasa made the long journey back to Cork with high spirits as they managed to win both the U16 Boys Division 2 and the U14 Boys Division 2 as well as coming runners up in the U19 Boys Division 1 behind Terenure College.
